Greetings Magicians,
I want to apologize to all of you who encountered an SSL problem (security
alert pop-ups when your browser was trying to load pictures) when visiting The
SpookClub over the weekend, I will tell you what has caused that.
The reason for the error was that our SSL encryption certificate had expired
over the weekend. The certificate allows a secure connection with your web browser
and our store. Unfortunately, our certificate provider failed to contact us,
to let us know of the upcoming expiration of the certificate. So it came as
a surprise to us. And it being a weekend, their offices were closed so we couldn't
get the certificate renewed this weekend. And it shouldn't have happened in
the first place. With all the registrations we do, it is hard to keep track
of these things, so I rely on the companies we do business with to keep me informed.
This proved to be an error on my part. I will be marking the next expiration
on my calendar so this doesn't happen again.
The certificate still remains expired as of this morning (Sunday, February
26, 2006). So I have disabled the SSL certificate so you can continue to browse
our store without getting error messages. Entering orders is not unsafe, as
our server does not take any of your credit card, or Paypal details. They go
to our processing company's server, or Paypal's server. Each has an SSL encryption
certificate of their own, to keep your information secure.
We have our own SSL certificate as an added security measure. It is an extra
step we take, to keep your information secure.
And our SSL certificate will be up and running again this week. Our phone
messages and e-mails to our registration company will be answered tomorrow so
we can re-enable the SSL encryption here at The
SpookClub again, without having any error messages pop up.
Sincerely,
Wayne Stevenson
