Here's an interesting fact about Bicycle Rider Back playing cards in particular.
If you noticed, the Ace of Spades has the lady with the sword and shield, and
fig leaf on the face. At one point she apparently was not on the Ace of Spades.
Now, let's pretend she isn't on it currently.
Take the angel/cherub on the back of the cards. They have two eyes visible.
There are 6 angels per card. 52 cards in a deck.
Totals 624 eyes.
Now lets take the court cards (J, Q, K) and split them into ones with two eyes
visible per face and 1 eye visible per face.
There are 9 court cards with both of their eyes visible. The image is mirrored
so there are 4 eyes per card.
Totals 36 eyes.
There are 3 cards with a single eye showing. Mirroring that give two eyes per
card.
Totals 6 eyes.
So let's recap this:
Face cards with both eyes visible (four eyes): 9x4=36
Face cards with one eye visible (two eyes) : 3x2=6
Bicycle Backs (twelve eyes): 12x52=624
Add them all together and you get a total of 666 eyes.
So, the total is: 666 (Mark of the Beast according to some religions)
Rumor/myth has it that the woman on the Ace of Spades was put there to add two eyes
to the total.
Sincerely,
Wayne Stevenson
